Standard Folding Typewriter was one of the first fully portable typewriters to be produced in the US. With exactly this model started the production of legendary Corona brand typewrtiers, which in it’s first models had its destinctive folding mechanism, which it received from this very model.
Standard Folding had aluminium outer shell that gave it its distinctive silver-ish color and a low weight. Considering the corrisive resistance of aluminium, this typewriter was able to survive harsher conditions than other machines of the time.
Exactly this machine was sold during the times of the Russian Empire in today’s Latvia at the typewriter shop called “Taruman”, which was located somewhere on today’s Krišjāņa Valdemāra street with, possibly, a latvian keyboard which was installed by someone in the typewriter shop, judging by somewhat poor soldering job on some of the typeslugs.
