Optima M14 was the first typewriter to be produced at the Optima’s factories under Kombinat Zentronik leadership in DDR.

This typewriter model has a design solution that is not connected with it’s predecessor in any way, having almost unrounded, sharp corners, first appearance of big plastic parts throughout the parts of the outer shell and even lesser amount of chrome/nickel-coated parts- even less than the M12 model after the facelift. The shape of the keys is the same as with the M12 model, but the range of colors for order was considerably smaller- grayish shell with dark-gray keys or a light-brown shell with dark-gray plastic inserts and white keys.

The typewriter had a range of various carriage sizes available for order- from a standard one for A4-like papers up to gigantic ones, made for large spreadsheets. It was also possible to double the letter spacing with this machine. It had an optional decimal tabulator and a special key to free the levers that had been tangled together by some accident. Of course this machine had a mechanism to switch colors if a bi-colored ribbon was installed inside machine’s 16mm spools.

M14 was produced from around 1962 up to 1970.

This typewriter was found at the former Riga’s “Teika” furniture factory.
